The “Why Behind my Work”: My Personal Caregiving Journey

I stepped into caregiving around 2011, and I quickly became aware of how multidimensional this work is. To deepen my knowledge and increase my hands-on experience, I worked across every facet of the field: assisted living, memory care, group homes, brain injury facilities, hospice, and private care. What became glaringly obvious was how overwhelmed and lost families often felt—and how, on many occasions, the overall care for their loved one wasn’t truly tailored to the loved one’s needs and/or the family’s specific needs.

That’s why I created Laurie’s ConnectCare Resources (LCCR): to give families clarity, organization, and a steady point of contact when care gets complicated. LCCR is not a caregiving placement company. Instead, I support families by helping organize the full care picture—coordinating services, tracking needs, and bringing the details together so nothing important is overlooked.

Over the years I have helped many families by coming into their homes to meet the loved one(s), the caregiving team, and the family. Then I would assess the situation and offer simple, real-world solutions to streamline their current care plan and organize how that care is tracked. This organization is vital because it keeps the family better informed and assists doctors and nurses by providing the information they need to make the best decisions for their patients. As we all know, we can make better decisions when vital information is organized—we can recognize patterns and minor changes and address them sooner rather than later. I also help families communicate with their agencies, medical team, caregivers, and therapists. I could see how difficult it was for these families to take in all the medical information, along with the physical challenges and logistics of hands-on care, and then try to sort through it all while also processing their emotions for their loved one, and saying that it is “a lot” to unpack, would be an understatement! As an experienced professional caregiver, I know which questions to ask, and I am aware of important details you may need from those conversations—details that an overwhelmed family member may not know to ask, or may be too stressed and tired to remember.

As more people found me by word of mouth, they would continue to tell me I needed to start a business so more caregivers could find me and my services. So, here I am!

My passion and goals are to share my knowledge, experience and skills with caregivers seeking guidance, organization, and real-world solutions for this incredibly tough caregiving journey.
